121,000 Filipinos Lost Jobs, Suffered Pay Cuts, etc. Because of Crisis
An official of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday that more than 121,000 Filipinos have lost their jobs, suffered pay cuts or reduced work loads because of the current economic crisis.
From October of 2008 until the middle of this March, 11,574 suffered permanent loss of jobs while 38,806 were temporarily laid off by companies based in the Philippines as declared by Labor Undersecretary Rosalinda Baldoz. She further added that 59,149 Filipino workers were placed on flexible work arrangements.
In abroad, 12,000 out of 8.5 million Filipinos had lost their jobs, mostly in Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates.
